How to Become a TCYH - USA Hockey Coach

  1. Register as a member of USA Hockey (Cost is $40 plus any affiliate fees if applicable). https://www.usahockeyregistration.com/login_input.action

  2. Complete NY Background Check Screening (required every two years) -   http://www.commercialinvestigationsllc.com/VSSNYSAHA 

  3. Complete the USA Hockey Safe Sport Training (required every two years).            http://www.usahockey.com/safesporttraining

  4. Register as a Tri-County Youth Hockey Coach. https://bit.ly/2U6rmWk

  5. Complete the online age-specific module(s) for the age level of play you are coaching. (Cost is $10 per module)    http://www.usahockey.com/page/show/892966-age-specific-modules

  6. Find, register and attend the required certification clinic. (Cost is $40 plus any lunch fees if applicable) You can only attend one clinic per season. (The coaching clinic season for Levels 1-3 officially runs from September 1 to December 31)  Complete CEP Clinic by December 31st (each year for levels 1-3; level 3 is two year with two online updates, each for an additional two years; levels 4 and 5 are permanent) (there is an exception for 8U and younger that you can stay at Level 1 or your current level, if higher, if you so choose)    http://www.usahockey.com/page/show/892976-coaching-clinics

NYSAHL CEP Clinics

The NYSAHL West Section CEP Clinics for Levels 1, 2, and 3 have all been posted to USA Hockey and are open for registrations.  These will fill up quickly so please make your arrangements and register ASAP. The dates and venues are:

- July 28th at ECC South (SOLD OUT)

- September 23rd at Niagara University

- October 21st at UB North Campus (Amherst)

- November 10that SUNY Fredonia

- December 1st at SUNY Brockport.

As for CEP Clinics for Levels 4 and 5:  There are openings for the National Coaches Symposium (Level 5) in Lake Placid August 23-26. USA Hockey has invited coaches who hold their Level 3 certification to use this clinic to attain Level 4 certification.  

There will be two additional Level 4 clinics in New York State.  The first is being held September 15-16 in Lake Placid.  That clinic has been posted and is open for registration.   The second will be held December 1-2 at SUNY Brockport.  That clinic will be posted sometime the first week of August.
